Colon Polyps.

Clinical Study Title:
Vitamin and calcium supplement use is associated with decreased adenoma recurrence in patients with a previous history of neoplasia.

Plain English Summary:
This study is a follow up to determine the effects of a multivitamin supplement in reducing the recurrence of adenomatous polyps (potentially cancerious growths) associated with colorectal neoplasia (cancerous growths of the colon). Participants were recruited based on previous disorders of the colon/rectal area. Data about multivitamin usage and the presence of a adenoma (growth) were analyzed. Those patients who were using a multivitamin supplement seemed to gain a protective effect against the recurrence of the adenoma. Vitamin E and calcium supplements were also found to be protective. The use of these supplements may help to avoid recurrence of the polyp associated in colorectal diseases.
